I was on a call the other day and speaking with a small business owner. The business is comprised of a host computer running a SQL Server Express Line of Business Application and QuickBooks. Six PC’s and various printers are connected to the network and access the application(s) on the host.
As I was speaking with the owner about his current situation and future needs I asked what he would like to most have. The answered surprised me.
Whenever we speak with customers about upgrading their technology or implementing new technology the conversation ultimately turns to the cost of the solution. This leads to the logical question in response; What is outdated technology costing the business on a day to day basis? What are the implications of having outdated technology?
Last week we wrote about the City of Atlanta’s ransomware attack. For those just catching up. Atlanta was the target of a ransomware attack. The attackers demanded $51,000 to unlock the City’s data. The City was working with Microsoft, Homeland Security and the FBI to resolve the matter.
Two weeks later the City is still “Working around the clock to fix the issue.”
Last Thursday Morning around 5AM, City of Atlanta officials noticed something very wrong with their systems. They couldn’t get access the data that residents use to pay their bills or to the data for the court system. Atlanta was the target of a ransomeware attack. The attackers are demanding $51,000 to unlock their data. The City says it has no plans to pay the ransome and is working with Microsoft, Homeland Security and the FBI to resolve the matter.
As of Friday, a full day later, the City was handing flyers out to employees as they entered work telling them not to turn on their computers until the situation was fixed.
We’ve been going on and on about why business owners should be looking to move to a Cloud Workspace.
